Great local breakfast place (although they are open all day). We have heard about this place from family and finally had Sunday brunch here. Family atmosphere, great breakfasts, good portions sizes, and fantastic bacon. Seems to be well known by locals, and a little off the beaten path--but worth a visit. Plus, great homemade jams and I hear the pies are good.
Great diner food not too far from 87. Staff was great. It was spotlessly clean, open and airy.
I took my daughter here this morning for some quality time and good food (Sunday buffet). It has been many years since I have been here, but I believed that they were still a solid place for great food. Upon arriving, the staff was all over the place and disorganized. Based on the disorganization, I wasn't sure if I was supposed to wait to be seated or seat myself. After a couple of minutes standing there, an employee offered me one of two tables. When I went to answer her she was off helping another table.
We sat down and after a few minutes, no one had come by. I assumed someone would come for drink orders but no. At this time, we went to the buffet and the scrambled eggs were watery, runny, sitting in water and unappetizing. The rest of the buffet was unimpressive also. I put my plate back and sat back down. After a few more minutes, the waitress came over and asked us what we were going to order. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet. After a bit it came and tasted funky. I look down to investigate the strange taste and there were pieces of brown rice in the mix.
My daughter was unimpressed with the 2 inch pancakes from the buffet and I was grossed out by the omelet with "extras". I asked the waitress to throw it out, I didn't want anything else, and to bring the bill. When she did, she didn't charge us for anything (she was nice to do this), I dropped a tip and we left.
This was a horrible experience. I used to be a regular customer back 8-10 years ago and their food was awesome. I won't ever be back based on this experience. I can't believe their rating is 4.7 out of 5. Beware folks.
To begin, I used to like Guma's when it first opened. Over the past several years the quality has declined considerably. The pies are still good...particularly the pecan pie and the peanut butter pie.
There are just so many other areas of the restaurant that are bad though. First, my coffee cup still had pink lipstick on it from a previous customer...obviously not washed thoroughly...that's inexcusable.
My wife ordered her steak medium...they served it well-done, tough as shoe leather. The coffee was bad even by diner standards...it tasted old an burned.
My western omelette was acceptable, nothing special. The best part of the meal for any of us was the homemade jam...it is seriously good.
Overall experience was lousy, the service is minimal, the food mediocre, and the unclean dishes just unacceptable.
Bright, clean and cheery log cabin country diner. Breakfast served all day. Very friendly and attentive waitstaff too. I had one blueberry pancake and it was so big that I could not finish it. They also offer real maple syrup. Guma's sells their own homemade jams and jelly too. Great prices!
